BHOPAL: Additional district judge RN Chandra in a Dabra court near Gwalior on Thursday issued orders to unblock over 70 URLs related to Arindam Chaudhuri's Indian Institute of Planning and Management (IIPM). The URLs were earlier blocked on orders of the court following a petition filed by Ruchiv Sharma.

The blocking of the URLs had elicited massive online outrage, with many websites reproducing the blocked content.

Sharma, who runs an affiliate centre of the IIPM in Dabra, about 38 km from Gwalior, pleaded in his petition that the websites were hosting defamatory content about Chaudhari and his institute, that affected his business. Hearing the petition, the court had on January 29 ordered director general of Indian Computer Emergency Response Team to block 78 web pages including that of University Grant Commission ( UGC).

On Thursday, advocate Mukul Sharma appeared on behalf of DoT and filed a review petition on the order. Two other advocates, Anand Bharadwaj and Akhil Anand, appeared for Google India Pvt Ltd and Google Incorporation, USA.

While Sharma pleaded for review, Bharadwaj informed the court that 'Google' was just a search engine that showed links on different portals based on tag words.

After a brief argument, the court issued an interim order to vacate the stay. "The next hearing of the case has been slated for March 14," said Anand Bharadwaj, counsel for Google India Pvt Ltd and Google Incorporation, USA.

D K Pandey, counsel for Ruchiv Sharma, said the court has asked them to file its reply on questions raised in the review petition. "Court's decision to allow the contentious matters to remain online was based on an appeal by the DoT, and will hold till the next hearing on March 14. We had pleaded before the court for continuation of stay, but to no avail. Our request was turned aside," Pandey told TOI.
