NEW DELHI: The UPA government unveiled a Rs 40-crore Bharat Nirman campaign on Wednesday which showcases policy initiatives like the direct transfer scheme to intended beneficiaries, Aadhar, land acquisition, food security, women's empowerment and RTI.

Describing the "Glimpses of India Story-II'' as a small step to showcase a "silent revolution of empowerment of people'', the I&B minister Manish Tewari dismissed NDA's India Shining campaign as "imaginary.''

Asked about the differences between the two campaigns, Tewari said, "India Shining was a (imaginary) situation that the NDA government was broadcasting, while the Bharat Nirman is a small attempt to tell about the silent revolution that has led to empowerment of millions across the country." He said the India Story was launched by the ministry as part of its job to disseminate information about government programmes.

Asked why the government had chosen to show legislations that have not yet been passed in its audio-visual clips, Tewari said, "The UPA government should be applauded. We made honest, genuine attempt to update the land acquisition bill. Unfortunately these legislations have fallen to victim to partisan politics."

The multimedia initiative would be put out on the print media, television, outdoor publicity, and special outreach programmes focused on new media platforms. For the print and visual media, the content is being developed in 11 languages.
