In a matter relating to displacement of Adivasi population in Kokrajhar district of western Assam the Gauhati High Court accepted a status report from petitioners in the matter. Petitioners were displaced on account of violence in the 1980's against them and had approached the court seeking relief.

Petitioners who were driven out of their homes during a communal riot at the time of autonomy movement of Bodo tribal community in Assam have alleged that the government was now trying to evict them from relief camps. The petition claims that no resettlement plan have been drawn by the government.

Alleging that with time the government authorities have stopped distributing relief materials petitioners contended they are now forced to live in inhuman condition. Petitioners are also denied benefits of various other welfare schemes of the government, it was claimed.

The respondents include Secretary to Government of Assam, Relief and Rehabilitation Department and Secretary to Bodoland Territorial Area District Council Relief and Rehabilitation Department.

Advocates BD Goswami, Santanu Borthakur and Situ Basumatary appeared before the court on behalf of the petitioners.
