Water storage in south Indian reservoirs is 14% more than last year -Yogesh Kabirdoss

CHENNAI: Collective water storage in major reservoirs in south India is 14% more than that in the corresponding period of 2016. While the current storage levels in 31 major reservoirs spread across the five states is 53%, it was 39% during the same period last year.

There are 31 reservoirs under the monitoring of the Central Water Commission (CWC) in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu. The total live storage available in these reservoirs as on December 7, 2017 is 27.23 BCM, which is 53% of total live storage capacity of these reservoirs, according to an official statement by the Union water resources ministry.

"The storage during corresponding period of last year was 39% and average storage of last ten years during corresponding period was 60% of live storage capacity of these reservoirs," the statement said.
