CHANDIGARH: Haryana government today transferred whistleblower in Robert Vadra-DLF land deal, Ashok Khemka, Haryana IAS officer to department of Archives within six months of his recent posting as managing director of Haryana Seeds Development Corporation.

The latest transfer of Khemka, second in last few months and 44th in all, is seen as a bid to avoid further threat to image of the Congress government that has taken beating after he alleged scam in land deal worth Rs 58 crore between Congress President Sonia Gandhi's son-in-law Robert Vadra and realty major DLF.

With Assembly polls scheduled by the next year, Khemka, avowed to highlight corruption, has become major trouble for the Haryana Congress government led by Bhupinder Singh Hooda. The officer last year highlightedsale of land below the market price to Robert Vadra's companies, change of land use and transfer of panchayat land to DLF to benefit Vadra companies. Soon after the action Khemka was removed as Inspector General of Land Registration by the Haryana government and transferred to Haryana Seeds Development Corporation.

This year few months after posting in the Seeds Development Corporation, Khemka alleged another scam involving subsidy on fungicide. The officer alleged that subsidy on fungicide Raxil was mandated for Karnal bunt disease in wheat seeds by the agriculture department even though the fungicide was not even registered for the treatment of the disease. The maker of the fungicide, German company Bayer crop Science had not obtained registration in the last three years during which it supplied the same.

The officer had sought inquiry into the matter. He had alleged that the state has provided subsidy of over Rs 60 crore in the last three years. Stung by the allegations senior official in Haryana agriculture department had defended the German company stating that the fungicide was effective in Karnal bunt and other wheat seed related diseases.

Congress government found itself in eye of storm as Khemka's action fuelled anti corruption tirade by activist Arvind Kejriwal who played up the DLF-Vadra land deals in connection with companies of Vadra. Haryana Congress unit has been facing heat following opposition by INLD and BJP in Haryana into allegations made by Kejriwal highlighting the land deals of companies of Robert Vadra in four districts in Haryana

In an attempt to absolve itself in Vadra-DLF land deal, the state government has marked inquiry under the chief secretary. The internal inquiry by Haryana Congress government appointed officials failed to find discrepancies in the Vadra-DLF land deals.
