Yogendra Yadav on why neither Congress, BJP & Left will benefit from political crisis

Opining that the government has got 'fed up' of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), political analyst Yogendra Yadav told ET Now that government has closed its doors for the TMC. This he feels has been evident for a long time.

With the local relations in West Bengal turning sour, Congress sees little benefit from tieing up with TMC, he said.

Asked about the liklihood of the Samajhwadi Party (SP) extending support to the UPA II government, Yadav said that it appears that SP will continue to provide issue-based support.

However, he sees no reason for SP to bind themselves for a long time to a government that is losing political ground.

SP he said, does not have any clear economic policy. The party believes in going with the common perception and would not want to be seen as anti people, he added. Since it is still debatable whether FDI in retail is anti-people, SP has not taken a firm stand yet.

Yadav is of the opinion that mid-term elections are not imminent. "The Lok Sabha has a overwhelming majority of MPs who don't want early elections," he said. Both BJP and the Left Front are not prepared for them, he added.

On the issue of reforms, Yadav said that while the government is making an attempt to shake of the image of policy paralysis, they will not take too many measures that people feel will harm them.

The current politica crisis stemming from economic reforms is unlikely to benefit either Congress, BJP or Left Front.

While the reforms are not of the nature that appeal to people, both BJP and Left are in shambles and struggling with internal issues, he said.

Yadav sees Rahul Gandhi as the ace of the UPA for the 2014 general elections. With Manmohan Singh unlikely to go for a third term as the prime Minister, Yadav said that it is time for the Gandhi scion to take over.
