<p style="text-align:justify"><em>JAIPUR: </em>Chhattisgarh is set to reintroduce the old pension scheme for government employees that provides an assured pension after retirement, party leaders said on Sunday. Chhattisgarh will be the second state to revert to the old pension scheme that was scrapped from April 1, 2004, and replaced with a market-driven new pension scheme.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify">The reintroduction of the old pension scheme (OPS) was discussed by former party president Rahul Gandhi with Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot and Chhattisgarh chief minister Bhupesh Baghel, the leaders said, requesting anonymity.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify">“Baghel was told to explore introduction of the old pension scheme from the next financial year,” said a Congress functionary.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify">The old pension scheme was done away with by the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government at the Centre.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify">Chhattisgarh is exploring the option of reintroducing the OPS on directions from the chief minister, a state government official said. “I don’t think there would be huge financial implication because of this. We are working on what would be the financial implication,” the official said, declining to be named.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify">The budget session of Chhattisgarh assembly is starting from Monday; the state budget will be presented on March 9.</p>
