The allegation has been levelled by Assam Public Works (APW), the NGO that first filed a PIL in the Supreme Court demanding update, eventually leading to the preparation of the NRC. Abhijit Sarma, President of APW, has claimed that an inspection report by the Comptroller and Auditor General on the Accounts of the State Coordinator of the NRC between January 12, 2014, and December 31, 2019, has found that Rs 360 crore of funds meant for updating the NRC were misappropriated.</p>
