New Delhi: </em>Close to 42 lakh pensioners in Andhra Pradesh received their pensions at their houses from the village and ward volunteers under the state government’s ‘Intivadhakey Pension’ programme, according to a report in The Hindu.<br />
<br />
The massive doorstep pension disbursement initiative was one of the promises in the YSRCP’s election manifesto and was rolled out on Saturday.<br />
<br />
“The old, sick and physically challenged are saved from the ordeal of going to the pension disbursement offices every month. The village volunteers appointed by the government will visit each beneficiary’s house from now on the 1st of every month and hand over the pension after bio-metric verification,’’ said panchayati raj minister Peddireddi Ramchandra Reddy.<br />
<br />
In a tweet, Andhra Pradesh chief minister Jagan Mohan Reddy said that the government had delivered pensions to 6.11 lakh new beneficiaries and any other person left out could visit the nearest Secretariat and apply for the benefit.<br />
