Seven journalists from English and Hindi media from Delhi, Chandigarh, Jharkhand, Haryana, West Bengal and Chhattisgarh have been selected for the prestigious Inclusive Media-UNDP Fellowships 2015. The fellows will take time off from routine journalism to spend time with rural/ marginalized communities to highlight their anxieties and concerns that require wider coverage and public attention. The fellowships cover costs of news gathering, logistics and incidental expenses up to Rs 150,000.

The fellowship Jury comprised Prof. Vibodh Parthsarathi from the Department of Media, Culture and Governance, Jamia Milia Islamia University, Senior Journalist M K Venu, Founding Editor of The Wire, and a former Executive Editor of the Hindu and the Financial Express, Prof. Ajay Dandekar Head of the Department of History at Shiv Nadar University, Senior Journalist S Srinivasan, former Channel head of Headlines Today and UN Coordination Advisor Ms. Radhika Kaul Batra.

Following are the selected fellows with a brief description of the projects they propose to pursue:

1. Bharat Dogra, Freelancer (To study agrarian crisis, farmers' suicide and livelihood issues in Bundelkhand region of Uttar Pradesh)
2. Kunal Deo, Prabhat Khabar, Jamshedpur (To study the marginalisation of forest villages of Kolhan division spread across East and West Singhbhum and Seraikela-Kharsawan districts of Jharkhand)
3. Saurabh Duggal, Hindustan Times, Mohali (To study sports as a vehicle for social upliftment, economic change and women’s empowerment in rural Haryana with a focus on villages of Sonepat, Rohtak, Hisar, Bhiwani, Jind and Kurukshetra districts)
4. Sarah Hafeez, The Indian Express (To study livelihood and food security issues in the Jungle Mahal area in Bankura, Purulia and West Midnapore districts of West Bengal)
5. Alok Putul, www.raviwar.com (Perils of rice cultivation in Chhattisgarh and its impact on livelihood with a focus on Bilaspur, Raigarh, Korba and Janjgir-Champa districts)
6. Anushi Agrawal -- Correspondent & Assistant Producer with India Today/Aajtak (TV Today Network) and Devi Leena Bose -- Consultant with Maraa (Study of Community Radio Ownership in India and to present case studies)

The Inclusive Media for Change runs a clearing house of ideas, information and alternatives on India marginalised (www.im4change.org), conducts research and organises media capacity-building workshops. It is based at the Centre for the Study of Developing Societies, 29 Rajpur Road, Delhi.
