NOIDA: A 13-year-old student of a city school has developed a website to promote easy carpooling among commuters.

At a time when commuters have voiced concerns over the forthcoming rule on odd and even numbered cars plying on alternate days on Delhi roads, Akshat Mittal, a student of Class VIII in Amity International School Noida, Sector 44, said his website, odd-even.com, would prove extremely useful.

Users simply need to register themselves on the website with their name, age, mobile number and the registration number of their vehicle, if they own one. They can then make a commuter preference in terms of gender and age. They can also choose a oneway or a return trip. Then the users will fill up the start and end points of their travel, and a search will list out the complete details of matching profiles. Akshat said the website is simple and user-friendly , connecting people travelling to a common destination based on various filters and offering the best available option. The website is already functional and Mittal is planning to launch its mobile version.

Akshat said the Delhi government's recently framed rule of allowing odd and even numbered vehicles on alternate days impacts people with only one car.

"I thought about the problem people would face due to enforcement of the new rule. I made the website which works on algorithms based on the age, gender, profession and timings of commuters to travel," said the prodigy.
