<p class="middleContent"><strong>Dr. Sudha Narayanan</strong> is an Associate Professor at the Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research (IGIDR), Mumbai and obtained a PhD in Agricultural Economics from Cornell University. Sudha’s research interests straddle agriculture, food and nutrition policy, and human development in India. She is particularly interested in survey-based research using micro-econometric approaches to understand broader questions of agrarian change and state delivery systems for nutrition security. Her current research focuses on contract farming, technology adoption in agriculture, public policies for food security and employment and agriculture-nutrition linkages. <p class="middleContent"><strong>Kiran Kumar Vissa</strong> holds a B.Tech. from IIT, Chennai and an M.S. from University of Maryland. After working for over 9 years in the USA, Kiran headed back to India in 2008 to raise the problems of farmers in the public domain, to support them in their struggles and contribute to a policy environment that empowers them. He is a co-convener of Alliance for Sustainable & Holistic Agriculture (ASHA) and state convener of Rythu Swarajya Vedika (RSV) in Andhra Pradesh. He is also one of the members of the Working Group of All India Kisan Sangharsh Coordination Committee (AIKSCC). His work in agriculture focuses on issues like farm suicides, tenant farmers, agro-ecology, millet cropping and markets. His dedicated work over the years in the states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana has resulted in significantly improving the livelihoods of farmers in the region. <p><strong>Ajay Vir Jakhar</strong> is the Chairperson of Punjab State Farmers’ and Farm Workers’ Commission. Ajay Vir Jakhar is a citrus farmer in Fazilka in Punjab and a member of various co-operatives societies and actively participates in their activities. He is Chairman of Bharat Krishak Samaj (Farmers’ Forum, India) which was formed in 1955 and is a non-political, non-sectarian association of farmers advocating for farmer prosperity. He regularly holds seminars and conferences on issues of relevance to the farming community and participates and speaks at various National and International Forums. His articles appear regularly in various newspapers and publications. He is the Editor of agriculture magazines “Farmers’ Forum” and “Krishak Samachar” targeting farmers, policy makers and those that influence policy in India. He is someone who passionately advocates policies for farmer prosperity, self-sustainability & equal opportunities.</p>

<p><strong>Dr. Vijoo Krishnan</strong> is the Joint Secretary of All India Kisan Sabha. He is also the youngest Central Committee member of the Communist Party of India (Marxist). He is a writer on agrarian issues, and one of the key organisers of the Bhoomi Adhikaar Andolan which was successful in pushing back weakening amendments brought in through the ordinances route multiple times by the NDA government to LARR 2013. He did his Master’s, M.Phil. and Ph.D. from Jawaharlal Nehru University with a specialisation in Indian agrarian economy. For a while, he was the Head of the Department of Political Science in St Joseph’s College, Bangalore and from 2009 onwards, he began working closely on agrarian issues and other matters concerning peasants. He is also involved with the activities of the People’s Resistance Forum against Free Trade Agreements, in addition to resistance to FDI in the agriculture sector. The struggle for getting the Farmers’ Commission (aka Swaminathan Commission) formula for MSP fixing and announcing in the country has seen his active participation and leadership.</p>

<p><strong>Yudhvir Singh</strong> is General Secretary of Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) and a well-known farmers’ leader based out of Delhi. He has been associated with various struggles pertaining to improvement of farm livelihoods from 1978 onwards and had worked closely with Ch. Charan Singh, Ch. Mahendra Singh Tikait and Ch. Ajit Singh. He held the position of General Secretary in Rashtriya Lok Dal till 2009. After his land in Delhi has been acquired, he continues farming in Rajasthan. Spread over nearly 40 years, his struggles have spanned issues like Fair and Remunerative Prices for Farm Produce, Chemical-free Farming, Land Acquisition, Free Trade including World Trade Organisation, Family Farming, Income Guarantee for Farm Households and GMO-free India at the all-India level. Yudhvir Singh is the Member Secretary of Indian Coordination Committee for Farmers’ Movements (ICCFM) which he founded along with others in 2000 in Hyderabad and ICCFM represents lakhs of farmers across several states of India.
</p>

<p><strong>Mohini Mohan Mishra</strong> is the National Secretary of Bhartiya Kisan Sangh (BKS). He is known for his bold statements and struggles against government apathy towards farmers. Whether it is fair and remunerative prices for farm produce or land rights for farmers or organic farming, he has been standing on the side of farmers in their struggles. Hailing from Odisha, Mohini Mohan Mishra understands and closely follows the issues of farmers in eastern India, in addition to wide exposure to farming across the country. His academic qualification is in agriculture science. BKS was also in the forefront of resistance against free trade agreements like RCEP.

<p class="middleContent"><strong>Dr. Sudha Narayanan</strong> is an Associate Professor at the Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research (IGIDR), Mumbai and obtained a PhD in Agricultural Economics from Cornell University. Sudha’s research interests straddle agriculture, food and nutrition policy, and human development in India. She is particularly interested in survey-based research using micro-econometric approaches to understand broader questions of agrarian change and state delivery systems for nutrition security. Her current research focuses on contract farming, technology adoption in agriculture, public policies for food security and employment and agriculture-nutrition linkages. <p class="middleContent"><strong>Kiran Kumar Vissa</strong> holds a B.Tech. from IIT, Chennai and an M.S. from University of Maryland. After working for over 9 years in the USA, Kiran headed back to India in 2008 to raise the problems of farmers in the public domain, to support them in their struggles and contribute to a policy environment that empowers them. He is a co-convener of Alliance for Sustainable & Holistic Agriculture (ASHA) and state convener of Rythu Swarajya Vedika (RSV) in Andhra Pradesh. He is also one of the members of the Working Group of All India Kisan Sangharsh Coordination Committee (AIKSCC). His work in agriculture focuses on issues like farm suicides, tenant farmers, agro-ecology, millet cropping and markets. His dedicated work over the years in the states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana has resulted in significantly improving the livelihoods of farmers in the region. <p><strong>Ajay Vir Jakhar</strong> is the Chairperson of Punjab State Farmers’ and Farm Workers’ Commission. Ajay Vir Jakhar is a citrus farmer in Fazilka in Punjab and a member of various co-operatives societies and actively participates in their activities. He is Chairman of Bharat Krishak Samaj (Farmers’ Forum, India) which was formed in 1955 and is a non-political, non-sectarian association of farmers advocating for farmer prosperity. He regularly holds seminars and conferences on issues of relevance to the farming community and participates and speaks at various National and International Forums. His articles appear regularly in various newspapers and publications. He is the Editor of agriculture magazines “Farmers’ Forum” and “Krishak Samachar” targeting farmers, policy makers and those that influence policy in India. He is someone who passionately advocates policies for farmer prosperity, self-sustainability & equal opportunities.</p>

<p><strong>Dr. Vijoo Krishnan</strong> is the Joint Secretary of All India Kisan Sabha. He is also the youngest Central Committee member of the Communist Party of India (Marxist). He is a writer on agrarian issues, and one of the key organisers of the Bhoomi Adhikaar Andolan which was successful in pushing back weakening amendments brought in through the ordinances route multiple times by the NDA government to LARR 2013. He did his Master’s, M.Phil. and Ph.D. from Jawaharlal Nehru University with a specialisation in Indian agrarian economy. For a while, he was the Head of the Department of Political Science in St Joseph’s College, Bangalore and from 2009 onwards, he began working closely on agrarian issues and other matters concerning peasants. He is also involved with the activities of the People’s Resistance Forum against Free Trade Agreements, in addition to resistance to FDI in the agriculture sector. The struggle for getting the Farmers’ Commission (aka Swaminathan Commission) formula for MSP fixing and announcing in the country has seen his active participation and leadership.</p>

<p><strong>Yudhvir Singh</strong> is General Secretary of Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) and a well-known farmers’ leader based out of Delhi. He has been associated with various struggles pertaining to improvement of farm livelihoods from 1978 onwards and had worked closely with Ch. Charan Singh, Ch. Mahendra Singh Tikait and Ch. Ajit Singh. He held the position of General Secretary in Rashtriya Lok Dal till 2009. After his land in Delhi has been acquired, he continues farming in Rajasthan. Spread over nearly 40 years, his struggles have spanned issues like Fair and Remunerative Prices for Farm Produce, Chemical-free Farming, Land Acquisition, Free Trade including World Trade Organisation, Family Farming, Income Guarantee for Farm Households and GMO-free India at the all-India level. Yudhvir Singh is the Member Secretary of Indian Coordination Committee for Farmers’ Movements (ICCFM) which he founded along with others in 2000 in Hyderabad and ICCFM represents lakhs of farmers across several states of India.
</p>

<p><strong>Mohini Mohan Mishra</strong> is the National Secretary of Bhartiya Kisan Sangh (BKS). He is known for his bold statements and struggles against government apathy towards farmers. Whether it is fair and remunerative prices for farm produce or land rights for farmers or organic farming, he has been standing on the side of farmers in their struggles. Hailing from Odisha, Mohini Mohan Mishra understands and closely follows the issues of farmers in eastern India, in addition to wide exposure to farming across the country. His academic qualification is in agriculture science. BKS was also in the forefront of resistance against free trade agreements like RCEP.

<p class="middleContent"><strong>Dr. Sudha Narayanan</strong> is an Associate Professor at the Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research (IGIDR), Mumbai and obtained a PhD in Agricultural Economics from Cornell University. Sudha’s research interests straddle agriculture, food and nutrition policy, and human development in India. She is particularly interested in survey-based research using micro-econometric approaches to understand broader questions of agrarian change and state delivery systems for nutrition security. Her current research focuses on contract farming, technology adoption in agriculture, public policies for food security and employment and agriculture-nutrition linkages. <p class="middleContent"><strong>Kiran Kumar Vissa</strong> holds a B.Tech. from IIT, Chennai and an M.S. from University of Maryland. After working for over 9 years in the USA, Kiran headed back to India in 2008 to raise the problems of farmers in the public domain, to support them in their struggles and contribute to a policy environment that empowers them. He is a co-convener of Alliance for Sustainable & Holistic Agriculture (ASHA) and state convener of Rythu Swarajya Vedika (RSV) in Andhra Pradesh. He is also one of the members of the Working Group of All India Kisan Sangharsh Coordination Committee (AIKSCC). His work in agriculture focuses on issues like farm suicides, tenant farmers, agro-ecology, millet cropping and markets. His dedicated work over the years in the states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana has resulted in significantly improving the livelihoods of farmers in the region. <p><strong>Ajay Vir Jakhar</strong> is the Chairperson of Punjab State Farmers’ and Farm Workers’ Commission. Ajay Vir Jakhar is a citrus farmer in Fazilka in Punjab and a member of various co-operatives societies and actively participates in their activities. He is Chairman of Bharat Krishak Samaj (Farmers’ Forum, India) which was formed in 1955 and is a non-political, non-sectarian association of farmers advocating for farmer prosperity. He regularly holds seminars and conferences on issues of relevance to the farming community and participates and speaks at various National and International Forums. His articles appear regularly in various newspapers and publications. He is the Editor of agriculture magazines “Farmers’ Forum” and “Krishak Samachar” targeting farmers, policy makers and those that influence policy in India. He is someone who passionately advocates policies for farmer prosperity, self-sustainability & equal opportunities.</p>

<p><strong>Dr. Vijoo Krishnan</strong> is the Joint Secretary of All India Kisan Sabha. He is also the youngest Central Committee member of the Communist Party of India (Marxist). He is a writer on agrarian issues, and one of the key organisers of the Bhoomi Adhikaar Andolan which was successful in pushing back weakening amendments brought in through the ordinances route multiple times by the NDA government to LARR 2013. He did his Master’s, M.Phil. and Ph.D. from Jawaharlal Nehru University with a specialisation in Indian agrarian economy. For a while, he was the Head of the Department of Political Science in St Joseph’s College, Bangalore and from 2009 onwards, he began working closely on agrarian issues and other matters concerning peasants. He is also involved with the activities of the People’s Resistance Forum against Free Trade Agreements, in addition to resistance to FDI in the agriculture sector. The struggle for getting the Farmers’ Commission (aka Swaminathan Commission) formula for MSP fixing and announcing in the country has seen his active participation and leadership.</p>

<p><strong>Yudhvir Singh</strong> is General Secretary of Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) and a well-known farmers’ leader based out of Delhi. He has been associated with various struggles pertaining to improvement of farm livelihoods from 1978 onwards and had worked closely with Ch. Charan Singh, Ch. Mahendra Singh Tikait and Ch. Ajit Singh. He held the position of General Secretary in Rashtriya Lok Dal till 2009. After his land in Delhi has been acquired, he continues farming in Rajasthan. Spread over nearly 40 years, his struggles have spanned issues like Fair and Remunerative Prices for Farm Produce, Chemical-free Farming, Land Acquisition, Free Trade including World Trade Organisation, Family Farming, Income Guarantee for Farm Households and GMO-free India at the all-India level. Yudhvir Singh is the Member Secretary of Indian Coordination Committee for Farmers’ Movements (ICCFM) which he founded along with others in 2000 in Hyderabad and ICCFM represents lakhs of farmers across several states of India.
</p>

<p><strong>Mohini Mohan Mishra</strong> is the National Secretary of Bhartiya Kisan Sangh (BKS). He is known for his bold statements and struggles against government apathy towards farmers. Whether it is fair and remunerative prices for farm produce or land rights for farmers or organic farming, he has been standing on the side of farmers in their struggles. Hailing from Odisha, Mohini Mohan Mishra understands and closely follows the issues of farmers in eastern India, in addition to wide exposure to farming across the country. His academic qualification is in agriculture science. BKS was also in the forefront of resistance against free trade agreements like RCEP.

It is being reported that the Government of India is planning to bring in the 3 agri-reform ordinances as Bills to the Parliament in the upcoming session itself. Against this backdrop, this webinar focuses on the ordinances.

Presentations by -

Dr. Sudha Narayanan is an Associate Professor at the Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research (IGIDR), Mumbai and obtained a PhD in Agricultural Economics from Cornell University. Sudha’s research interests straddle agriculture, food and nutrition policy, and human development in India. She is particularly interested in survey-based research using micro-econometric approaches to understand broader questions of agrarian change and state delivery systems for nutrition security. Her current research focuses on contract farming, technology adoption in agriculture, public policies for food security and employment and agriculture-nutrition linkages. Kiran Kumar Vissa holds a B.Tech. from IIT, Chennai and an M.S. from University of Maryland. After working for over 9 years in the USA, Kiran headed back to India in 2008 to raise the problems of farmers in the public domain, to support them in their struggles and contribute to a policy environment that empowers them. He is a co-convener of Alliance for Sustainable & Holistic Agriculture (ASHA) and state convener of Rythu Swarajya Vedika (RSV) in Andhra Pradesh. He is also one of the members of the Working Group of All India Kisan Sangharsh Coordination Committee (AIKSCC). His work in agriculture focuses on issues like farm suicides, tenant farmers, agro-ecology, millet cropping and markets. His dedicated work over the years in the states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana has resulted in significantly improving the livelihoods of farmers in the region. Ajay Vir Jakhar is the Chairperson of Punjab State Farmers’ and Farm Workers’ Commission. Ajay Vir Jakhar is a citrus farmer in Fazilka in Punjab and a member of various co-operatives societies and actively participates in their activities. He is Chairman of Bharat Krishak Samaj (Farmers’ Forum, India) which was formed in 1955 and is a non-political, non-sectarian association of farmers advocating for farmer prosperity. He regularly holds seminars and conferences on issues of relevance to the farming community and participates and speaks at various National and International Forums. His articles appear regularly in various newspapers and publications. He is the Editor of agriculture magazines “Farmers’ Forum” and “Krishak Samachar” targeting farmers, policy makers and those that influence policy in India. He is someone who passionately advocates policies for farmer prosperity, self-sustainability & equal opportunities.

Dr. Vijoo Krishnan is the Joint Secretary of All India Kisan Sabha. He is also the youngest Central Committee member of the Communist Party of India (Marxist). He is a writer on agrarian issues, and one of the key organisers of the Bhoomi Adhikaar Andolan which was successful in pushing back weakening amendments brought in through the ordinances route multiple times by the NDA government to LARR 2013. He did his Master’s, M.Phil. and Ph.D. from Jawaharlal Nehru University with a specialisation in Indian agrarian economy. For a while, he was the Head of the Department of Political Science in St Joseph’s College, Bangalore and from 2009 onwards, he began working closely on agrarian issues and other matters concerning peasants. He is also involved with the activities of the People’s Resistance Forum against Free Trade Agreements, in addition to resistance to FDI in the agriculture sector. The struggle for getting the Farmers’ Commission (aka Swaminathan Commission) formula for MSP fixing and announcing in the country has seen his active participation and leadership.

Yudhvir Singh is General Secretary of Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) and a well-known farmers’ leader based out of Delhi. He has been associated with various struggles pertaining to improvement of farm livelihoods from 1978 onwards and had worked closely with Ch. Charan Singh, Ch. Mahendra Singh Tikait and Ch. Ajit Singh. He held the position of General Secretary in Rashtriya Lok Dal till 2009. After his land in Delhi has been acquired, he continues farming in Rajasthan. Spread over nearly 40 years, his struggles have spanned issues like Fair and Remunerative Prices for Farm Produce, Chemical-free Farming, Land Acquisition, Free Trade including World Trade Organisation, Family Farming, Income Guarantee for Farm Households and GMO-free India at the all-India level. Yudhvir Singh is the Member Secretary of Indian Coordination Committee for Farmers’ Movements (ICCFM) which he founded along with others in 2000 in Hyderabad and ICCFM represents lakhs of farmers across several states of India.

Mohini Mohan Mishra is the National Secretary of Bhartiya Kisan Sangh (BKS). He is known for his bold statements and struggles against government apathy towards farmers. Whether it is fair and remunerative prices for farm produce or land rights for farmers or organic farming, he has been standing on the side of farmers in their struggles. Hailing from Odisha, Mohini Mohan Mishra understands and closely follows the issues of farmers in eastern India, in addition to wide exposure to farming across the country. His academic qualification is in agriculture science. BKS was also in the forefront of resistance against free trade agreements like RCEP.
