SHILLONG/ JORHAT: At least three people, including a minor, were killed and two women reported missing following a massive landslide in Meghalaya's Ri-Bhoi district on Saturday morning.

"The landslide occurred inside an industrial area of the Meghalaya Industrial Development Corporation in Umiam," said Ramesh Singh, Ri-Bhoi SP.

The disaster was triggered by incessant rain in the region for the past few days. With more people feared trapped under the debris, rescue operations are underway at the site.

Meanwhile in Assam, over 30,000 people have been affected by the floods, as on Saturday. District administrations have opened 16 relief distribution centres for assistance.
