Though Greater Noida Authority claims to have reached an 'out-of-court settlement' with Patwari villagers, over a dozen writ petitions have been filed in Allahabad High Court rejecting the same 'pact'. Farmers have rejected the deal and have appealed to the court that they be given their land back.

"I have filed writ petitions on behalf of around 20 villagers from Patwari who have rejected the settlement and have claimed their land back," said farmers' lawyer Parmindera Bhati. "The process of selective talks with only a few hand-picked villagers has resulted in a lot of confusion. There are numerous others who have approached the court through other lawyers and many more are in the queue," added Bhati.

Under the Patwari deal, the Authority has claimed to have reached an out-of-court settlement with the village of Patwari by

has offered Rs 550 per sqm as extra compensation to each aggrieved villager besides the promise of undertaking some developmental works in the village. On September 2, Uttar Pradesh state government also ratified the pact.

"We had filed petitions in Allahabad High Court to get our land back, which we had lost to acquisition under the urgency clause," said Sudesh Yadav, whose family owns about 300 bighas of ancestral farmland in the village of Patwadi.

Yadav is one of the several petitioners who have appealed to the court in the last week. "We don't want a settlement with the Authority. All we want is our land," added Yadav.

Villagers have complained that though a few landowners have benefitted from the truce as huge tracts of their land has been left out from the acquisition process, most others have been left in the lurch.

"Around 32 bighas of land belonging to my uncle, Reshpal Yadav, has been left out of acquisition by Greater Noida Authority," said Dhani Singh Yadav, whose family owns 85 bighas of ancestral farmland in Patwari. "Our farmlands are adjacent to those 32 bighas of land. This is selective treatment by the Authority and we want our land back," added Yadav, who has also filed a petition in the HC.
