Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde on Thursday said his ministry has asked for the opinion of the Law Ministry about sending a Presidential reference to the Supreme Court in the sexual harassment case of the law intern in which Justice (retd) A K Ganguly is accused.

National Law Minister Kapil Sibal had earlier demanded Ganguly's resignation.

An inquiry by the Supreme Court into the sexual harassment allegations against Justice A K Ganguly has held the retired judge prima facie guilty of "unwelcome behaviour" and "unwelcome conduct of sexual nature" with the young lawyer who was interning with him in December 2012.

Justice Ganguly is currently the Chairman of the West Bengal State Human Rights Commission. Despite calls from several quarters that he resign, he has steadfastly hung on to his post, refusing to divulge any details about the incident to the media on the grounds "it is none of your business."

Additiaonal Solicitor General Indira Jaising had given in this newspaper details of what actually had happened on the night of December 24, 2012, for which Justice Ganguly stands accused.

The then law intern, alleged victim of sexual harassment, came out in the open many months later, writing of the experience and resulting trauma in a blog. So far, she has not lodged a formal complaint.
