Video Volunteers, a Goa based chapter of an international community media portal is inviting application for its India Unheard program. It is the second round of program under which selected candidates would be trained to make video reports from their area focusing issues, concerns, actions, innovations, traditions etc related to communities. It’s a one year old endeavor to provide fellowship for citizen journalism.   
 
The Fellowship is open for Hindi speaking candidates as well. The deadline is 15 Oct 2010.
 
Please apply if you have the energy and commitment or encourage others to apply. You can also nominte suitable candidates if you are an NGO or a social movement

Fellowship Criteria and Process

Video Volunteers will select socially-committed individuals from rural and slum areas for a one year community journalism fellowship. If you are thinking of applying for this fellowship or nominating someone you know here’s some more information that will help you understand the program and process:

 
The Process:

1.    Potential Community Correspondents (CCs) apply online and VV makes the final selection.

2.    CCs attend a two week, expenses-paid training by Video Volunteers, where they will be given equipment and be trained as citizen journalists.

3.    CCs can easily make 3 or 4 videos per month and are required to make a minimum of 2 per month.

4.    CCs receive Rs 1,300 per approved video inclusive of internet, postage and travel expenses for the story.

5.    VV will loan the CC the camera -he or she will pay the loan back in 12 installments of 400 Rs each, after which the camera belongs to the CC.

6.    CCs return to their local areas and produce a minimum of 2 videos (each lasting three minutes) every month on 10 social issues decided by VV.

7.    CCs will send out SMS reports to the VV office.

8.    The CCs’ videos and other media will be posted on the India Unheard website, distributed elsewhere online and to the mainstream media.


You can apply if you:

1.    Are associated with social movements, human rights campaigns and/or NGOs

2.    Come from a disadvantaged background

3.    Are strongly interested in communicating local stories to the world

4.    Are strongly committed to working with/for local people in your area

5.    Have a basic knowledge of computers (this is desirable) and access to a computer and the internet (this is vital)

6.    Can read & write in Hindi or English

1.    If you are involved with an NGO/social movement you can nominate suitable candidates.
