While people are driven in the economic race, they don't bother about socio-ethical aspects such as sex selection," said women's activist Sonya Gill. "People want a smaller family, which inadvertently becomes boy-oriented following myths that 'he' earns while 'she' is a burden." Activists blame the "total contempt of law" for the status quo. "The law against sex selection has existed in Maharashtra for over two decades, but there is no hope for a girl child to be born unless it is implemented in letter and spirit," said girl child activist Sabu George.<br /> <br /> The grim findings might have one silver lining, though.
