NEW DELHI: About 100 district court complexes in the country out of 665 have no toilets for women. And those which have washrooms, only 40% are fully functional, according to a latest survey of all the district courts across the country. Half of the district courts in the country had no designated waiting areas while only 39% were full service court complexes with post office, bank branch, canteen, photocopier, typist and notaries despite the fact that government has spent close to over Rs 7,000 crore in modernising and giving litigants world class court complexes.

“Only 40% of the court complexes have fully-functioning washrooms. Goa, Jharkhand, UP and Mizoram had the least number of court complexes with functional washrooms. At least 100 district court complexes across the country don’t even have a washroom for women,” revealed the survey conducted by Vidhi, a Delhi-based think tank on judicial reforms.
