                            <div align="justify">-The Times of India<br /><br /><em>BHOPAL: </em>It may not be a sexist remark, but exchanges between lawmakers during the Zero Hour in the Madhya Pradesh assembly on Friday did indicate that some of them appreciate women behind &quot;ghunghat&quot;.<br /><br />The reference to &quot;ghunghat&quot; (veil) came during a calling attention motion when BJP MLA from Amarwada constituency in Chhindwara district, Prem Narayan Thakur, demanded regularisation of observers working for the different education schemes.<br /><br />Thakur was previously with the Congress and a former minister in the Digvijaya Singh government before joining the BJP just weeks before the 2008 assembly elections. As he got up, the Congress members, in a lighter vein, commented how Thakur was like the new &quot;bahu&quot; of the BJP. As the conversation took this turn, Congress MLA from Ratlam Laxmi Devi Kharari asked about the &quot;ghunghat&quot; of the 'daughter-in-law'.<br /><br />&quot;When I was newly married, I used to wear ghunghat which was more than a feet long over my face,&quot; she said. Deputy Speaker Harvansh Singh, who was in the chair, observed: &quot;That must be appreciated. The concept of ghunghat for women is in tune with the Indian tradition.&quot;<br /><br />Minister for legislative affairs Narottam Mishra also praised women who wear 'ghunghat'. The deputy speaker then pointed at MLA from Gadarwara in Narsingpur district, Sadhna Sthapak, and said: &quot;Look at her. She is an MLA and always wears a ghunghat. She is a regular in the assembly and yet none of us have ever seen her full face.&quot;<br /><br />As Harvansh Singh praised her, Sadhna got up from her seat and bowed graciously to accept the 'compliment'.</div>

                            <div align="justify">-The Times of India<br /><br /><em>BHOPAL: </em>It may not be a sexist remark, but exchanges between lawmakers during the Zero Hour in the Madhya Pradesh assembly on Friday did indicate that some of them appreciate women behind &quot;ghunghat&quot;.<br /><br />The reference to &quot;ghunghat&quot; (veil) came during a calling attention motion when BJP MLA from Amarwada constituency in Chhindwara district, Prem Narayan Thakur, demanded regularisation of observers working for the different education schemes.<br /><br />Thakur was previously with the Congress and a former minister in the Digvijaya Singh government before joining the BJP just weeks before the 2008 assembly elections. As he got up, the Congress members, in a lighter vein, commented how Thakur was like the new &quot;bahu&quot; of the BJP. As the conversation took this turn, Congress MLA from Ratlam Laxmi Devi Kharari asked about the &quot;ghunghat&quot; of the 'daughter-in-law'.<br /><br />&quot;When I was newly married, I used to wear ghunghat which was more than a feet long over my face,&quot; she said. Deputy Speaker Harvansh Singh, who was in the chair, observed: &quot;That must be appreciated. The concept of ghunghat for women is in tune with the Indian tradition.&quot;<br /><br />Minister for legislative affairs Narottam Mishra also praised women who wear 'ghunghat'. The deputy speaker then pointed at MLA from Gadarwara in Narsingpur district, Sadhna Sthapak, and said: &quot;Look at her. She is an MLA and always wears a ghunghat. She is a regular in the assembly and yet none of us have ever seen her full face.&quot;<br /><br />As Harvansh Singh praised her, Sadhna got up from her seat and bowed graciously to accept the 'compliment'.</div>

                            <div align="justify">-The Times of India<br /><br /><em>BHOPAL: </em>It may not be a sexist remark, but exchanges between lawmakers during the Zero Hour in the Madhya Pradesh assembly on Friday did indicate that some of them appreciate women behind &quot;ghunghat&quot;.<br /><br />The reference to &quot;ghunghat&quot; (veil) came during a calling attention motion when BJP MLA from Amarwada constituency in Chhindwara district, Prem Narayan Thakur, demanded regularisation of observers working for the different education schemes.<br /><br />Thakur was previously with the Congress and a former minister in the Digvijaya Singh government before joining the BJP just weeks before the 2008 assembly elections. As he got up, the Congress members, in a lighter vein, commented how Thakur was like the new &quot;bahu&quot; of the BJP. As the conversation took this turn, Congress MLA from Ratlam Laxmi Devi Kharari asked about the &quot;ghunghat&quot; of the 'daughter-in-law'.<br /><br />&quot;When I was newly married, I used to wear ghunghat which was more than a feet long over my face,&quot; she said. Deputy Speaker Harvansh Singh, who was in the chair, observed: &quot;That must be appreciated. The concept of ghunghat for women is in tune with the Indian tradition.&quot;<br /><br />Minister for legislative affairs Narottam Mishra also praised women who wear 'ghunghat'. The deputy speaker then pointed at MLA from Gadarwara in Narsingpur district, Sadhna Sthapak, and said: &quot;Look at her. She is an MLA and always wears a ghunghat. She is a regular in the assembly and yet none of us have ever seen her full face.&quot;<br /><br />As Harvansh Singh praised her, Sadhna got up from her seat and bowed graciously to accept the 'compliment'.</div>

Some MP lawmakers appreciate women in 'ghunghat'

-The Times of India BHOPAL: It may not be a sexist remark, but exchanges between lawmakers during the Zero Hour in the Madhya Pradesh assembly on Friday did indicate that some of them appreciate women behind "ghunghat". The reference to "ghunghat" (veil) came during a calling attention motion when BJP MLA from Amarwada constituency in Chhindwara district, Prem Narayan Thakur, demanded regularisation of observers working for the different education schemes. Thakur was previously with the Congress and a former minister in the Digvijaya Singh government before joining the BJP just weeks before the 2008 assembly elections. As he got up, the Congress members, in a lighter vein, commented how Thakur was like the new "bahu" of the BJP. As the conversation took this turn, Congress MLA from Ratlam Laxmi Devi Kharari asked about the "ghunghat" of the 'daughter-in-law'. "When I was newly married, I used to wear ghunghat which was more than a feet long over my face," she said. Deputy Speaker Harvansh Singh, who was in the chair, observed: "That must be appreciated. The concept of ghunghat for women is in tune with the Indian tradition." Minister for legislative affairs Narottam Mishra also praised women who wear 'ghunghat'. The deputy speaker then pointed at MLA from Gadarwara in Narsingpur district, Sadhna Sthapak, and said: "Look at her. She is an MLA and always wears a ghunghat. She is a regular in the assembly and yet none of us have ever seen her full face." As Harvansh Singh praised her, Sadhna got up from her seat and bowed graciously to accept the 'compliment'.
